The Inline Universal Product Inspector is the next step towards complete final assembly automation with a X/Y/Z top and bottom gantry and inline conveyor system.
For many years the industry has concentrated on inspecting products during manufacture, yet left final inspection to human operators, a process that until now has gone without any automated solution. Prey have looked to tackle this directly, and the result is the Inline Universal Product Inspector (UPI).
Designed to be incredibly easy to use while remaining accurate, flexible and repeatable, the Inline UPI integrates into your final assembly process, allowing for a fully automated workflow where products are fed through via the integrated conveyor system. With dual inspection heads, one top, one bottom, each operating across fully automatic X, Y and Z axes, the system, simultaneously captures all and inspects all products within the inspection platform in sub 10 seconds.
The system automatically adjusts head positions to accommodate multiple different products running through the machine with no manual intervention required, creating a truly universal and automated solution. The Inline UPI can be used to inspect almost anything across virtually any industry where repeatable final assembly quality is demanded.

By removing manual product handling entirely, the Inline UPI reduces labour dependency, improves throughput consistency and eliminates the variability inherent in human inspection, delivering a fully automated, repeatable quality gate at the end of your production line whilst providing full traceability.
With each inspection head independently controlled across all three axes, the system adapts to a wide range of product sizes, shapes and configurations without any mechanical changeover, maintaining the same level of accuracy and repeatability whether running a single product at high volume or switching between multiple assemblies.
The Inline UPI offers full traceability with multiple reporting options available, either with the integrated SPC data analysis tools, or automatic PDF generation with a live capture of the inspected product highlighting any failures, or live CSV data export for use with external systems for complete flexibility.
Powered by AI, the software’s Optimisation feature, intelligently learns from component and product fluctuations using historical production throughput to automatically optimise inspection parameters across all inspection tests, with the ability to refine pass rate tolerances based on real production data, with no specialist programming knowledge required.
As part of our commitment to continuous development, the UPI now features Jigless capability, simply teach the system a recognisable point on the product and it will automatically identify its position, rotate the image and complete the inspection, without the need for a custom jig. This makes deploying the UPI faster and more adaptable than ever.
With optional features such as Deep Learning OCR, enabling the system to read and verify labels and printed text character by character, whether specifications, power ratings, instructions or plain text serial numbers. Even without a barcode, the OCR can identify and store serial numbers against all inspection results for full traceability.
The Inline UPI further supports 1D and 2D barcode, QR code and Datamatrix reading via the cameras, with optional enhanced barcode reading available, enabling seamless integration with existing traceability and production management systems. Built around the same intuitive, Windows-styled interface used across the entire Prey Inspector range, the system ensures ease of training for new and existing customers alike.
